Brief introduction of EAF tapping trough

When tapping the electric furnace, the furnace body inclines to the tapping direction at a certain angle (generally 45s), and the molten steel flows through the tapping tank into the ladle. In addition to guiding the molten steel, the tapping trough can also prevent the molten steel from spreading and protect the molten steel from secondary oxidation. If the geometric design or refractory materials are used improperly, it will lead to large heat loss, high refractory consumption, and even increase non-metallic inclusions in molten steel.

The structure of trough tapping is that the tapping hole is located above the copper water surface. In the past, the tapping method of the tapping trough was to tap steel under the condition that the steel slag covered the molten steel. The main purpose is to prevent the temperature drop of the molten steel, improve the desulfurization capacity and prevent the oxidation of the molten steel. Now the tapping hole starts from the place close to the furnace bottom, and is connected with the upward inclined large tapping slot at the external flat wall.

The tapping trough is connected with the furnace shell, and its masonry methods include tamping, pouring, brick masonry or comprehensive masonry. The masonry method of tapping hole is relatively consistent. Generally, the tapping hole bricks of various shapes are used for masonry, or the center is a steel pipe, and the surrounding area is integrally poured with high-quality magnesia castables. It is also made of ceramic pipes with a wall thickness of 25mm and 23 high-grade fused magnesia bricks. Usually, after 5070 heats are used, a new tapping hole needs to be replaced. When the tapping trough is used for tilting tapping, the main damaged parts are the molten steel line, slag line and the bell mouth at the front end of the trough. The refractory materials are required to have good wear resistance, slag corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, and to prevent cracking and minimize wear during the use of the tapping trough.
